MEETINGS AND ACCOMMODATION:all of our meetings will be held at the Holiday Inn Midtown on Sherbrooke Street West, chosen for its convenient location near the centre of downtown Montreal. We have reserved a block of rooms at the special rate of $139.00 + tax per night. They will be held for us until April 24th.
Indoor parking is available at a cost of $18.95 per day.

Commonwealth Essay International Results
|
|
Canada, particularly Quebec, has done outstandingly well this year! Quebec schools won 79 awards: Ist prize in Class A, Carolun Jong, Bishop's College School; 2nd prize in Class D, Jillian Ohayon of Hebrew Foundation School; two runners-up for a prize, Sophie Le, St Mary's School, and Adrianna Modafferi , The Study; 20 essays were Highly Commended; 54 essays were Commended. Quebec is certainly making its mark and gaining a reputation for the excellence of its students' writing! |

Annual General Meeting

The 2005 Annual General Meeting of the Montreal Branch will take place on Monday, May 30, at 6 pm in the Westmount Room of the Westmount Library, 4574 Sherbrooke Street West. The purpose of the meeting is to receive annual reports from the President and the Treasurer, and to elect the Branch officers for the coming year.
At 7 pm, following the business meeting, our Treasurer Walt Steeves, who has just returned from a holiday in Australia, will give an illustrated talk on his trip.

The Montreal Branch will hold a dinner to celebrate Commonwealth Day, Monday, March 14th, 2005, at the Holiday Inn Montreal-Midtown La Plaza, 420 Sherbrooke Street West. The hotel is west of Bleury-Park, on the south side of Sherbrooke - on the 24 Bus route. Parking is available.
Dinner is at 7:00 pm; reception at 6:30 pm. Cost: $40.00 per person, which includes a glass of wine or a soft drink. A vegetarian option is available if requested in advance. Business attire or National Dress - Miniatures may be worn.
A guest speaker will address assembled members and their guests on the theme of this year's Commonwealth Day: "Education - Creating Opportunity, Realising Potential".

Africa by Bike: Cairo to Cape Town
|
|
The Montreal Branch of the Royal Commonwealth Society sponsored a presentation, with slides, on January 24 at the Westmount Library. Edwina and Joe Mattinson described their four-month odyssey, travelling the length of Africa by bicycle. Deserts, rain forests, scorching heat, freezing cold - they experienced it all. A fascinating evening, enjoyed by everyone present. |
